Determination of Enterococcal Virulence Factors Expression and Impact of Biofilm Formation on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Pattern

Introduction: Enterococcus spp. has become recognized as a significant cause of hospital-acquired infections. Two main virulence factors namely gelatinase and hemolysin Enterococci have been proved to severe In addition, biofilm formation is causing infection by enhancing the persistence in medical indwelling devices. Therefore, study aimed evaluate presence hemolysin, gelatinase, impact on antimicrobial susceptibility patterns.
 Materials & Methods: Total 104 Enterococcal isolates obtained from different clinical samples were included for expression factors. All evaluated tissue culture plate method. Hemolysin production was checked using 5% sheep blood agar peptone yeast extract containing 3% gelatin. Antimicrobial testing done Vitek2 compact automated system.
 Results: Out isolates, 1(1%) strong producers while 4(3.85% %) 54(52%) moderate weak respectively. observed 19(18%) universal.
 Conclusion: Biofilm-producing strains showed higher resistance beta-lactam drugs high-level aminoglycosides. Hence, amongst three factors, studying can be an important tool develop hospital’s antibiotic policy other helpful understand pathogenesis caused well usage strategies.
